Editorial Cartoons

The Editorial Cartoon Collection is housed in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Room of the Central Library and contains seventeen individual editorial cartoons collections of mostly St. Louis artists between 1900 and 1962, though some may date back as far as 1890. The collection includes a few of the St. Louis greats Archibald Chapin, Roy James, Harry Tuthill, Daniel Fitzpatrick, Robert Minor, and Bill Mauldin. Lantern Slides

The Lantern Slide Collection is housed in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Room of Central Library and consists of five individual collections arranged topically. Collections depict the Mississippi River and St. Louis Riverfront in the 1930s, the 1914 Pageant & Masque of St. Louis, historic buildings in Missouri with an emphasis on St. Louis, the State Capitol in Jefferson City, and the presentation slides for The Story of a City: St. Louis Bicentennial Show 1964 which illustrate the history of St. Louis. Louisiana Purchase Exposition

The LPE Glass Plate Negatives consisting of over 7500 images and is housed in SLPL's offsite storage facility, the former Compton Film Library. Many of the images feature the construction of the Fair. The LPE Stereograph Cards consisting of just over 500 stereograph cards is housed in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Room of Central Library. Some of the cards are in color, featuring scenes of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Cards produced by the Keystone View Company, Underwood & Underwood, and the William H. Rau Company are represented in the collection. A finding aid to the collection is available.

Maps of Missouri

This collection features maps of Missouri cities, towns, counties and the state itself. The majority of these maps were created between the beginning of the 19th through the early 20th century and were produced as single sheet maps or sections of atlases. These maps represent various types of maps, subjects, time periods, and aesthetic styles that are found in the map collection of SLPL. Approximately 100 maps are assembled for this collection.

St. Louis Water Department

The St. Louis Water Department Glass Plate Negative Collection is housed in SLPL's offsite storage facility, the former Compton Film Library. The collection consists of over 2500 images taken by the St. Louis Water Department of various Department projects and locations throughout the city. Construction of the Chain of Rocks Water treatment plant is well documented in the collection along with pumping stations, reservoirs, and street scenes of St. Louis. A preliminary finding aid to the collection is available.

Stereograph Cards

The Stereograph Card Collection is housed in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Room of Central Library The primary subject matter of the cards is travel, featuring both United States and European destinations. Several different publishers are represented in the collection as well as types of cards including color, sepia, and black and white prints. Finding aids to individual collections are available.
